BABESIOSIS
Haemoprotozoan disease of ruminants and horses. Mostly found in moist areas.
Etiology:
Protozoa named Babesia Bigemina is causative agent. Spreads by vectors. Incubation period is 5-15days
Symptoms:
Acute-
- High fever upto 107F
- High respiration
- Pale mucus membrane
- Red colored urine
- Anorexia
- Death may occur
Chronic-
- Frequent fever
- Weakness
- Pale mucus membrane
Diagnosis:
By laboratory Test
Treatment:
- Anti Haemoprotozoan drug Diminazine Aceturate is drug of choice
- Give analgesics along with b-complex and anti histamines
- Liver should be given , bcoz protozoan negatively affects the
- Give iron tonics and vitamin A injections
- Provide good quality of mineral mixture
